Meta's beach is one of the main reasons to choose the town over Sorrento as a base. The Sorrentine Peninsula has very few sandy beaches — most of the coast consists of cliffs, rocks, and small pebbly coves — but Meta has a reasonably sized stretch of sand accessible directly from the town centre and the Circumvesuviana station.
In summer the beach fills with Neapolitan families escaping the city heat, which gives it a more Italian feel than the international tourist crowd at Sorrento. The water is warm and calm on the Gulf of Naples side. There are beach establishments (lidos) charging for deckchairs and umbrellas, and a small free public section. The beach is close enough to walk from the train station in a few minutes.
