Ravenna is easy to reach by train from Bologna (about 90 minutes) or Ferrara (45 minutes). Several direct trains run daily from both cities. From Venice, the journey via Bologna takes about two hours. From Florence and Rome, a change at Bologna is required.
By car, the A14 motorway (the Adriatic motorway) connects Ravenna with Bologna to the west and the Adriatic coast north and south. The city is about 75 kilometres east of Bologna. Ravenna has an airport (Forlì Airport, shared with the Forlì province), but it handles limited routes; most visitors fly to Bologna.
The central railway station is about fifteen minutes' walk from the main monuments. Bikes can be rented from the station, and the city is flat enough to be comfortable for cycling.
