Pordenone is a year-round city, but two periods stand out. October is the best time to visit if you have any interest in cinema: the Le Giornate del Cinema Muto festival transforms the city for a week, with screenings, live music, and an audience of international film scholars and enthusiasts that gives the town an unusually convivial atmosphere. Booking accommodation well in advance is essential during festival week.
Spring (April to June) is otherwise the most pleasant time to visit — the Noncello parks are at their best, the corso is animated without being crowded, and the light in Friuli is exceptional. Summer is warm and the city empties a little for the holidays, but the historic centre remains lively. December brings a modest Christmas market to the corso.
Winters in the Po plain can be cold and foggy; while Pordenone is functional throughout, the grey November weather is not the town's most appealing face. Come in autumn or spring if you can.
