A grand Viennese-style café on Piazza Unità d'Italia, opened in 1839 and restored to its original splendour in 2012. The interior is all mirrors, marble, and chandeliers; the terrace faces the sea. This is the classic spot for a morning coffee or a hot chocolate with a view of the square — sit outside early in the day before the tourists fill the piazza.
In Trieste, coffee has its own vocabulary: a capo is what the rest of Italy calls a macchiato, a nero is an espresso, a capo in b is a macchiato in a glass. Using the local terms is appreciated.
