Faro della Vittoria

Trieste’s monumental Victory Lighthouse, a seafront memorial and one of the city’s clearest orientation points.

Il Faro della Vittoria, the Victory Lighthouse, rises above the Gulf of Trieste north of the centre. It is both a working lighthouse and a First World War memorial, built on a scale that matches Trieste's habit of turning history, sea power, and architecture into one statement.

The lighthouse is most impressive from the waterfront or from the roads leading toward Barcola, where its column and winged figure stand out against the hillside. When open, the climb gives a broad view over the gulf, the port, and the limestone edge of the Carso.
