Tempio Ossario

The Tempio Ossario dei Caduti d'Italia is an enormous brick church built in 1931 to hold the remains of 25,000 Italian soldiers killed on the First World War's Carso and Isonzo front nearby. The interior, with its huge wall niches of names and bones, is a sombre, monumental space utterly unlike the cheerful Venetian Gothic of the city centre.

It is a short walk west of the historic core. Free admission, open most mornings.
