Punta Corvo is the most dramatic beach on this stretch of coast — a long strand of dark grey pebbles tucked under a 700-metre cliff on the south-western face of the Montemarcello headland. The combination of sheer rock, dark water, and the small ferries arriving and leaving gives it the feel of a half-secret place even in August.
There are two ways down: a steep, switch-backed footpath from the road above Montemarcello (about 600 stone steps each way, roughly 45 minutes down) or a 15-minute summer ferry from the dock in the natural park at Bocca di Magra. The beach has no facilities and no shade, so bring water and an umbrella; this is also a popular nude-bathing spot at the southern end.
