The hamlet of Conscente sits on a low hill 1.5 km north of Cisano, crowned by a 15th-century castle with multiple towers — the best-preserved fortified building in the lower Neva valley. The castle was built by the Del Carretto marquises and later passed to the Republic of Genoa.
It is privately owned and not regularly open to the public, but the walk up from Cisano on the old paved track is itself pleasant — twenty minutes through olive groves, with views down the valley toward the Mediterranean. The exterior, with its squat round towers and surviving curtain walls, is the better part of the visit.
