Punta Bonfiglio Viewpoint

The little headland west of the village, reached by a paved path up from the harbour past the cemetery. From the railing at the top you get that view of Manarola — the one on every postcard, every guidebook cover and every Italy-travel Instagram account: pastel houses stacked on dark rock, slipway funnelling down to a turquoise harbour, terraced vineyards above.

Come at sunset for the colours, but bring a packed dinner if you want the railing — it gets crowded in summer. There's a children's playground and a small bar with outdoor tables a hundred metres back, which is a more pleasant place to actually linger.

A story
The photo of Manarola you've seen on a thousand desktop wallpapers — pastel houses stacked above a black-rock harbour, all at sunset — was almost certainly shot from this point. The village cemetery sits just behind: thirty paces from the world's most-photographed viewpoint to the resting place of its fishermen.
