The parish church of Manarola, in the upper village, was consecrated in 1338 — older than most of the houses below it by some centuries. A simple Ligurian Gothic façade of grey stone, with a rose window said to come from the same workshop that built San Pietro in Portovenere. Inside there is a sixteenth-century polyptych and an unusually fine bronze candelabrum.
The piazza in front, Piazza Papa Innocenzo IV, has a stone fountain, three or four trees and a bench. Climb up the stepped alleys from the harbour to reach it — it's a hard fifteen minutes' walk and the best vantage point inside the village.
