Monte Peso Grande

Monte Peso Grande (1,092 m) rises directly above Onzo, its wooded southern slope giving way to open meadows near the summit. The walk from the village to the top takes two to three hours and is manageable for anyone in reasonable shape, following tracks through the olive groves and then up through chestnut and oak forest.

The summit offers views stretching from the Maritime Alps to the Ligurian coast — on very clear days the peaks of Corsica are visible. The upper meadows are grazed by sheep in summer and the path is well-worn. This is Liguria's lesser-known hinterland: none of the crowds of the coast, just the landscape and the silence.
