The Basilica di Santa Maria di Nazareth is a Renaissance church sitting at the edge of the old town near the Baia del Silenzio. Built in the 16th century, it is the largest and most architecturally significant church in Sestri Levante, with a decorative facade and an interior containing several works of note including carved altarpieces and votive offerings from local sailors.
The church's interior reflects Sestri Levante's history as a seafaring community — votive ships and maritime ex-votos hang from the ceiling and walls, a tradition common in Ligurian port churches and a touching reminder of the dangers local fishermen once routinely faced.
