Lombardia has no sea, but its lakes more than compensate. The shores of Como, Garda, Maggiore, and Iseo all offer swimming, sailing, and that particular Italian-lakeside atmosphere — waterfront promenades, boat rentals, and mountains rising straight from the water. Garda gets the biggest summer crowds; Iseo is the most peaceful alternative.
