Villa e Parco Recalcati is one of the villas that gives Varese its old reputation as a city of gardens and summer residences. The villa has institutional uses today, but the architecture and park still help connect the modern city with its aristocratic and landscaped past.
It is a good low-key stop if you are walking Varese beyond the main squares. Do not expect a grand palace visit with room after room open to tourists; the point is the ensemble of villa, grounds, and neighbourhood. Pair it with other gardens or with a trip onward to the Sacro Monte.
