A former Franciscan convent church built in the 17th century, now deconsecrated and repurposed as a cultural space for temporary exhibitions and civic events. The interior retains its original proportions and much of its decorative plasterwork, making it an attractive venue for the exhibitions it occasionally hosts. The adjacent convent buildings are used by the local municipality.
Santa Chiara stands on Corso Garibaldi, the main street of the historic centre, and is worth a brief stop whether or not an exhibition is running. The building itself is a good example of provincial Italian baroque that survived the 1805 earthquake better than much of the city's other heritage.
