Alagna is all about the mountains, in both winter and summer. In winter the off-piste terrain above the village is among the best in the Alps, accessed by cable car up to the Indren glacier. In summer the same lifts take hikers up to spectacular ridge walks, with Monte Rosa's glaciated peaks on one side and the Valsesia valley on the other. The Walser Museum in the village is worth an hour for cultural context. The architecture itself — massive stone and timber Walser farmhouses — is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
