Getting There

The most atmospheric way to arrive is by train on the FSE (Ferrovie del Sud-Est) line from Bari, a narrow-gauge regional railway that winds through the Valle d'Itria past olive groves and trulli-dotted fields. The journey from Bari Centrale takes about 1.5 hours, with changes at Putignano or direct services depending on the schedule. The FSE station in Alberobello is a short walk from Rione Monti.

By car from Bari is about 55km southeast, roughly an hour on the SP236 through Putignano. There is no direct motorway connection; the approach roads are all through the rolling karst landscape of the Valle d'Itria, which is part of the pleasure of the trip. Parking in town fills up in summer; arrive early or use the lots on the outskirts and walk in.
