Trullo di Marziolla

Trullo di Marziolla sits in the countryside outside Locorotondo and is one of the most important small buildings in the Valle d'Itria. Its dry-stone cone and thick walls show the trullo form in a practical agricultural setting, away from the more theatrical concentration at Alberobello.

The visit is quick, but worthwhile if you have a car or bicycle. It helps restore the trullo to its original world of vines, fields, stone walls, and hard rural work rather than treating it as a novelty roof shape.

A story
A date carved over the doorway records 1559, making this one of the oldest dated trulli in the Valle d'Itria. Its rural setting matters: trulli were working farm buildings long before they became symbols of Puglia.
