The coastal village of Cala Gonone lies 8 km downhill from Dorgali, connected by a winding road that drops through limestone cliffs to a small harbour on the Gulf of Orosei. This is the departure point for boats to the sea caves and secluded coves that make this stretch of Sardinian coast famous — Cala Goloritzé, Cala Biriola, Cala Sisine, and Cala Luna are all inaccessible by road and reached only by sea.
Cala Gonone itself is a low-key beach resort with a few restaurants, rental operators, and a diving centre. In season (June to September) it fills up; in spring and autumn it is quiet and pleasant. Day trips by boat can be booked at the harbour, ranging from short hops to individual coves to full-day tours along the coast.
