The birthplace of Grazia Deledda, Sardinia's most celebrated novelist and the 1926 Nobel laureate, has been preserved as a small house museum in the old quarter. The rooms are arranged as they would have been in the late nineteenth century, and display editions of her novels in many languages. If you have read any of her work — Canne al Vento and Elias Portolu are the most accessible — this is worth a visit for the context it provides.

A story
Grazia Deledda won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1926 — the first Italian woman to do so. When the prize was announced, she reportedly told a journalist: 'I have not done anything extraordinary. I have only written about my people.'
