Bosco di Alcamo Nature Reserve covers the slopes of Mount Bonifato above town. It is the easiest place near Alcamo to trade traffic and stone streets for pines, picnic areas, and open views toward the Gulf of Castellammare.
The reserve also has layers of history: traces of an older settlement, the Funtanazza water structure, and the remains of the Castle of Ventimiglia. Come for a short walk rather than a wilderness hike, and avoid the hottest part of summer days.
