Pianto Romano is the hill outside Calatafimi where Garibaldi's volunteers defeated Bourbon forces in May 1860, an early and symbolic victory in the campaign that led to Italian unification. The ossuary and memorial make the battlefield easy to identify in the rolling countryside.
It is a quieter stop than Segesta, but it gives the town a second historical layer. Pair it with the archaeological park if you want to understand why this small inland place keeps appearing in bigger Sicilian stories.
