Monreale is 8km southwest of Palermo city centre. Bus 389 runs from Piazza Indipendenza in Palermo roughly every 30 minutes throughout the day; the journey takes about 20-25 minutes. Taxis are available from Palermo but costly. By car, follow signs from the centre of Palermo toward Monreale; parking is available but limited near the cathedral in summer.
The bus drops you in the main piazza directly in front of the cathedral. The abbey of San Martino delle Scale requires a car or taxi; it is not accessible by public transport.
