Castelnuovo dell'Abate is the small village above Sant'Antimo, often passed through quickly by visitors heading straight to the abbey. It deserves a slow look if you have the time.
The village gives the abbey visit a human frame: stone houses, quiet lanes, and vineyard country rather than an isolated monument. It is also a good reminder that Montalcino's territory is made of scattered hamlets, not just the famous hill town.
