Museo Civico di Montepulciano

The Museo Civico di Montepulciano, also known as the Pinacoteca Crociani, occupies the Palazzo Neri-Orselli on Via Ricci, a fine Renaissance palace a short walk from the main square. The collection covers local art and archaeology from the Etruscan period through the Renaissance, with particular strength in terracottas and in the Sienese and Florentine paintings that decorated the churches and private chapels of the town.

The Etruscan material is worth noting: Montepulciano sits in an area of rich Etruscan settlement, and the museum holds a good selection of painted pottery, votive bronzes, and funerary objects from local excavations. The Renaissance paintings include works by local artists associated with the school of Sano di Pietro.
