Montepulciano is small enough to cover thoroughly in a day, but the quality of what's here — the Renaissance pilgrimage church outside the walls, the civic architecture along the main street, the wine cellars beneath the town — repays a slower visit. The views from the main piazza at the top of the town are among the best in Tuscany.
