By car, Pistoia sits just off the A11 autostrada connecting Florence to the coast. There are car parks outside the historic centre, from which the old town is easily walkable. Driving into the centro storico itself is restricted to residents in most areas.
Pistoia makes a good day trip from Florence and can be combined with Lucca or Prato in a single day for those moving through the region.
