Prato is 17 km northwest of Florence and extremely easy to reach. Direct trains run from Florence's Santa Maria Novella station every 10 to 15 minutes; the journey takes around 20 minutes. There are also direct trains from Bologna, which stop at Prato Centrale before continuing to Florence.
By car, take the A11 autostrada from Florence toward Pistoia and exit at Prato Est or Prato Ovest. Parking in the centre can be difficult; the city walls car parks or the area around the train station are more reliable.
Florence's Peretola airport is 15 km to the southeast and technically the closest major airport, though most international visitors arrive through Pisa (80 km) or Bologna (100 km) and take the train.
