Established by the Italian state in the 1960s as a "permanent exhibition of Italian wines", the Enoteca occupies the deep cellars of the Fortezza Medicea. Several hundred bottles from every region are available by the glass, with sensible flights for comparing Brunello, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and Chianti Classico.
A calm place for a serious tasting, with knowledgeable staff. The fortress courtyard above makes a fine place to drink the bought-by-the-glass glass on a summer evening.
