Castello della Regina

Caterina Cornaro's palace, now home to a theatre and views.

The castle in the centre of town served as Caterina Cornaro's palace during her two decades as Queen of Asolo. The building has been much altered over the centuries, but the distinctive clock tower is original. The castle grounds now house a theatre and offer pleasant views over the town.

A story
When Caterina Cornaro was persuaded to cede Cyprus to Venice in 1489, she was given Asolo as consolation. She held a brilliant court here for twenty years, attracting poets and musicians, until the League of Cambrai drove her out in 1509.
