The Colonia Montana — a long curved building on the upper slopes of the Villaggio — was the children's colony, designed to host up to 600 children of ENI employees on summer holidays. The architecture is unmistakably 1950s European modernism: a sweeping reinforced-concrete frame, ribbon windows running its full length, terraced refectories opening to the mountain views.
The building has been largely abandoned since the 1980s and is in advanced decay, but its scale and ambition are still visible from below. Restoration is slow and partial; the site is technically off-limits without a tour guide, but parts can be glimpsed from the access road. It is one of the most photographed pieces of modernist ruin in the Alps.
