Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Duomo)

The Duomo of Chioggia stands at the southern end of the old town, set back behind a small piazza. The current building dates to the 17th century, designed by Baldassare Longhena — the architect of Venice's Santa Maria della Salute — after a fire destroyed the medieval church on the same site in 1623.

Inside, look for the cycle of paintings on the life of Saint Felix and Saint Fortunatus and the elaborately decorated chapel of the Sacrament. The detached campanile beside the church is older than the rest of the building and is the tallest structure in the city. The Diocesan Museum next door has a small but worthwhile collection of liturgical objects and paintings from the surrounding parishes.
