Getting There

Chioggia sits at the southern end of the Venetian Lagoon, about 50 km south of Venice itself. The fastest road approach is by car from Padua (40 km west) along the SR516, or from the A4 motorway via the Padova-Sud or Venezia-Mestre exits — about 45 minutes from either.

By bus there are direct ACTV services from Venice's Piazzale Roma (around 90 minutes, runs roughly every half hour), and frequent connections from Padua. The combined lagoon route from Venice — taking the Linea 11 vaporetto/bus combination via Lido and Pellestrina — is slower but unforgettable, hopping across two ferries and the long sandy spit of Pellestrina before arriving in Chioggia. Return fare is around 10 euros.

There is no rail station in Chioggia itself; the nearest is Rovigo (40 km south, on the Bologna–Venice line) or Chioggia–Sottomarina on a slow local branch. Most travellers come by car or bus.
