A small square at the southern tip of the old town, opening onto the lagoon and the bridge to Sottomarina. The piazzetta is dominated by a marble column topped with a winged Lion of Saint Mark — a sign that Chioggia, like every town in the old Venetian Republic, was once ruled from the Rialto.
Cafes line the square with tables out under awnings, looking across the water at the lagoon entrance. It is the best spot in town for a Spritz at sunset, when the light comes off the water and the boats putter back to harbour. The Ponte Vigo, just behind the column, is a charming arched footbridge often compared to its Venetian cousins.
