Basilica di San Giacomo Apostolo

San Giacomo Apostolo stands on the Corso del Popolo, halfway down the spine of the old town. The current church was built in the 18th century in late baroque style, replacing a medieval predecessor that had stood here since the 12th century — the date is recorded in a worn inscription preserved inside.

The most venerated object inside is a 14th-century icon of the Virgin Mary said to have arrived by sea, found floating off the lagoon. Locals call her the Madonna della Navicella and credit her with several miraculous interventions. Pope John XXIII raised the church to the status of minor basilica in 1934.
