The Palazzo Municipale, Chioggia's town hall, sits on the Corso del Popolo just north of the Basilica di San Giacomo. The current building is mid-19th century, in a sober neoclassical style with a long colonnaded ground floor that gives the corso some of its character. Earlier versions of the building, going back to the 13th century, stood on the same spot.
Inside (open during office hours), there is a small civic museum and a hall of paintings by local artists. The clock on the facade and the bell on the rooftop turret are functioning originals from the 17th century, rescued from the previous building when it was demolished.
