San Vito di Cadore is a small village and most of its centre is walkable in minutes. The ski lifts are on the edge of the village and reachable on foot from most accommodation. For the ski area, a free or subsidised ski bus connects the village to the main lift stations in both San Vito and Cortina d'Ampezzo throughout the winter season — ask at your hotel for the current timetable.
In summer, the cable car and chair lifts that serve the ski area in winter continue to run for hikers, giving fast access to the upper terrain without the slog of the forest approach. Trails radiate in all directions from the lift tops.
Beyond the village, a car is the most practical option. The SS51 road runs the length of the Boite valley and connects San Vito to Cortina (10 km north) and Belluno (50 km south). The SAD bus service runs several times daily between Cortina and Belluno, stopping in San Vito — useful for reaching Cortina without driving, but infrequent enough that a car gives much more freedom for day trips to Monte Pelmo, Cibiana, or Borca di Cadore.
