Venice's premier modern art museum, housed in Peggy Guggenheim's former home — a low, unfinished palazzo right on the Grand Canal. The collection is personal and exceptional: Pollock, Picasso, Dalí, Calder, Duchamp, Ernst (her second husband), and Brancusi in a garden on the water. One of the most pleasurable museums to visit in Italy — compact, well-lit, and intelligently arranged.
The terrace on the Grand Canal is one of the best vantage points in Venice. The café and bookshop are also good. Pair with the Accademia a ten-minute walk away for a full afternoon in Dorsoduro.
