Gjilan Pedestrian Zone

The pedestrian zone — locally called the bulevar — runs through central Gjilan and is lined on both sides with cafés, shops, and restaurants. This is the social spine of the city, and it is busiest in the early evenings when residents come out for the nightly promenade. Tables overflow onto the pavement; people stop to talk in the middle of the street; the pace slows to something almost Mediterranean.

Gjilan has a reputation across Kosovo as a city that takes its café culture seriously, and the pedestrian zone is where that reputation is earned. Walking the bulevar over an espresso and watching the evening foot traffic is as good an introduction to the city as any sight or museum. Most of the city's better restaurants and the few bars that exist are concentrated here or on the immediate side streets.
