The Cēsu Alus brewery has been producing beer in Cesis since 1590, making it one of the oldest in the Baltics. The brewery is not open for regular public tours, but the beer is available throughout the town in bars and shops. Try the unfiltered lager and the dark beer, which have a character distinct from international brands.
The brewery building is in the town centre and visible from the street. Several bars in the old town carry the full Cēsu Alus range; this is a town where the local beer is genuinely worth ordering.
