The Old Town of Kuldīga is the reason to come. UNESCO lists it as a rare surviving example of a traditional Courland town, shaped between the 16th and 18th centuries around the Venta River and the small Alekšupīte stream.
Walk slowly rather than chasing a checklist. The low houses, red-tile roofs, wooden facades, cobbles, and streamside back walls build the atmosphere piece by piece.
