Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Help of Christians

This Catholic church on the western side of Alytus is the most architecturally notable of the city's several churches. Built in the early 20th century, it stands on a rise above the surrounding neighbourhood and its twin towers are visible from much of the western part of the city.

The interior is worth a visit for its painted vaulting and the quality of the stained glass. Services are still held regularly. The church represents the particular texture of Lithuanian Catholicism — deeply rooted, sustained through Soviet-era suppression, and part of what makes cities like Alytus feel distinctly Lithuanian rather than simply post-Soviet.
