Things to Do

Dzūkija rewards slow travel — there are no grand monuments, just forests, rivers, and villages where old Lithuanian ways of life have survived remarkably intact. Canoeing the Ūla and Merkys rivers is the classic activity, with stretches ranging from gentle half-day paddles to multi-day expeditions through forest wilderness. Cycling is also popular, with routes connecting traditional Dzūkijan villages. In summer and autumn, locals still head deep into the forest to pick mushrooms and berries — a tradition taken seriously enough to be considered part of the regional identity. The park has marked hiking trails and riverside camping spots for those who want to stay overnight.
