Ūla River Canoeing

Classic multi-day canoe route through old-growth forest with riverside camping

The Ūla River is the most popular canoe route in Dzūkija National Park, flowing south through deep pine forest with occasional sandy beaches where the current widens. The standard route runs from Zervynos downstream to Marcinkonys, a two-to-three day journey depending on pace, with riverside camping spots designated along the way.

The forest on both banks is genuine old-growth pine and mixed woodland — not replanted commercial forest. The river is generally calm enough for beginners, though there are a few rocky stretches that require attention. Canoe rental is available in Marcinkonys and at several points along the route. The season runs from April through October; late spring and September avoid both the summer crowds and the worst of the biting insects.
