Halės Market (Halės Turgus) is the main traditional food market of Vilnius, operating in a covered 19th-century iron-and-glass market hall at the southern end of the old town. The market is open daily and sells fresh produce, meat, dairy, smoked fish, pickled vegetables, honey, dried mushrooms, and Lithuanian food specialities that are hard to find in supermarkets.
The hall itself is worth seeing as an example of late 19th-century industrial market architecture — the cast-iron columns and glass roof have been restored and the building is handsome. Outside the main hall, additional stalls spill into the surrounding streets selling textiles, second-hand goods, and household items. This is where the city shops for food, which makes it a more honest window into Vilnius daily life than Pilies Street. Pylimo St. 58. Open daily from early morning.
