The Basilica of the Visitation is the spiritual centre of Žemaičių Kalvarija. Its pale twin towers rise above a village that would otherwise feel modest, and inside the main draw is the revered image of the Virgin Mary with the Child.
This is not a museum church. People come here to pray, especially during the July festival, and the best visit is quiet and respectful. Step inside, then use the basilica as the starting point for the calvary chapels spread through the village.
