The Donkey Fountain is the kind of local symbol that makes more sense after five minutes in town than it does on a checklist. Diekirch has long played with the donkey as a mascot, and the fountain sits comfortably in the pedestrian centre.
Do not cross Luxembourg for it, obviously. But if you are already walking through Diekirch, it is a cheerful little marker of the town's self-image, and it has been known to dispense beer on special occasions.
