Larochette Castle sits about 50 metres above the town on a Luxembourg sandstone promontory. The first buildings here date from the 11th century, but a fire in 1565 left much of the complex in ruins. The Créhange House has been restored, giving the site one solid vertical block among the broken walls.
The castle is not as famous as Vianden, and that helps it. You can climb up from the village, walk the remains, and look down over the tight valley that explains why Larochette feels more dramatic than its size suggests.
