The Our river valley around Vianden offers some of the best walking in Luxembourg. Trails run along the river both north and south of town through forested hillsides and past small villages on the German side of the border. The scenery is classic Ardennes: steep wooded slopes, a meandering river, and occasional sandstone outcrops.
A popular circuit takes the chairlift up from town, follows the ridge trail south, then descends to the Our and walks back north along the riverbank. The full loop takes 3 to 4 hours depending on pace. The Our forms the border with Germany at this point, and the hiking is shared between Luxembourg and the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
