Victor Hugo spent time in Vianden in the summer of 1871, during his return journey from exile in Guernsey following the fall of the Second Empire. He stayed in a house on the Grande-Rue and wrote enthusiastically about the Our valley and the castle — the drawings and sketches he made here are among his most reproduced works.
The museum in the house is modest: two or three rooms of period furniture, letters, drawings, and printed material relating to Hugo's stays in Luxembourg. It takes perhaps 30 minutes to visit thoroughly. The location at the heart of the old town makes it easy to combine with a walk through the medieval streets.
